I'm not that good with gimp or photoshop but I've try to tweak a bit around infa tail (great one, it helps a lot to find the way out when you are lost in a maze) so mine looks like that now :

w00t. I love that cockpit. Never thought about multiple maps. I'll edit my cockpit some day and take off the huge map (rarely use it) and replace it by small maps in the corners showing different views

And I need to continue the ellipse thing once I'm done with tests (after christmas ), remind me to do that…

Try Cyrus-Beck clipping algorythm. It can do any convex polygon clipping ... The tricky part will be to get the inverse transformation matrix to switch the polygon from screen coordinates to map coordinates.

The clipping already works using an exact ellipse…
The bad thing about the transformation thing is that it's going to be dirty as I have to apply two transformations and catch all opengl calls in the map code

yeah, and don't forget about the flux capacitor!!!
