while reading Luzifer's statement I thought about this: why don't we set up another CT wild server but this time with the old maps only that we used to play a lot in the past months. like Luzifer I sometimes would like to play more the old ones. we could call that server something like "Crazy Tronners Wild Retro Fortress" etc...

but I'm curious: how many server are we able to have? I read in an old message from ed that CT wild has about 100GB traffic per month. well, what is our physical/financial limit?

perhaps there's a possibility for me to share a root server with a friend of mine. in that case I could set up that server alone. I found enough howtos from ed.

That would mean a server in Switzerland . I'd be happy about NO LAG and Pings of 12ms

About the idea of making a retro server: i like the idea. As i know all our srvs are hosted on the same machine at the moment (correct me if i'm wrong). A Second Server could set free reccources and may be we could move/redirect some of the current server 2 the nu location. Just to get more bandwith and so on...


And what about a CT ctf server. Many of us (especially Voodoo ) like that game mode a lot. It could be in Cat/Dog-Fight Style with walls and Objects in the room...

Good idea sol. Maybe the players could vote for the maps on this new server. For example, there's a vote here once a week where everyone can vote for his/her favourite maps. I really like the idea of "retro", so just the older maps.

You could maybe have it authenticating users. A challenge, but easily doable (no more noobs).

If you want to go back to Chico's roots, make it 36 axes.

I've also been in contact with groundpig about the ctf hack. He says he's tidying up the code and will release it soon.
I'd like to play around with that.

yes, i like the capture the flag server 2, having it on a good machine can be really cool, and the retro server is a good idea, we can make a system to automatizate it with a new table and a new php file 4 users and another 4 admins to reset, we still haven't triggers..., not a lot of work, maybe a day as much.

with the capture the flag the problem is that the longer you play the level the lower your fps goes. this is until you begin a new round or quit and rejoin. however then u loose ur points and can loose ur team (easy way is to go disconnect and press enter twice on it.)

you need to do something for that. apart from that i will be happy to contribute some help into map settings etc if u need any extra help

but get rid of bug and sumo of ours. no-one plays them. wild west has lower lag (at least for me and a few others)

yes, i realize the cpu problem on capture the flag, but u have to understand that is in alpha process, we probably will have to update the server several times, but now is working fine, just need some var cleaning from groudpig to free some memory.

I talked with my friend. it's not a root server but vserver. z-man made some tests with vserver (1) and said it's ok. so we have a good chance of success.

server goals:

- basically a CT wild fortress clone with...
- user authentication (implementation is open for discussion but no IRC)
- map voting (web interface)

it won't be moderated by CT members (yet).

I'm going to start after my vacation (november).

That's good to hear. But what do you mean with "no CT-admins"? The web-interface map voting thing sounds good.
I'm looking forward to play on another nice CT-Server.

no moderation = no one (except CT server tech members) can kick a player unless using kick votes.
