ah looks like I missed out on the futbol talk heres my thoughts
Barcelona was unlike any team Man U had played to that point (except maybe Fulham, buts thats another topic). Barça was fast and didn't try to be balanced. They just attacked with their speed and imagination. They had some strong defenders who played big games, Pique was HUGE, Puyol too. Dani Alves was not missed after the first 10 minutes passed. Henry is much more dangerous on the wing (did you see what he did to Rio!) and showed he still has it. Iniesta's on the ball skill was remarkable. Schole's 92nd minute foul was funny and expected, he's always been a peee-bo tackler.
The Barça win over Man U proved the emerging trend on the highest pitches. Barça was fast, creative and not afraid to attack, often sending wing backs forward. Fast, creative, attacking passing - a lot like Champion Spain in the 08 Euros (some of the same players, too). Man United on the other hand represents the older type of football. They have strong defenders, strong defending and shooting midfielders, some big targets striking, and a bit of speed on the wings. This form holds for most of the premiership (see Liverpool and Chelsea), as well as the Germany team that Spain beat last summer. The new trend coming is the fast, attacking midfielders and strikers (see Xavi, Iniesta, Deco, Fabregas, Messi, Arshavin). They sacrifice strength and controlling defense for scoring goals. Its a good sign for me, away from defensive football. |
