some demand for it, epsy put this little service up. To explain you how that works, I've copypasted( let's be honest =) ) this from
the channel's dedicated webpage:
What is a pickup game
Pickup games are organized by people who like to have a decent, fun and competitive game. The idea should be that players don’t leave during the game and that each team uses at least some basic organization in which, for example, attackers and defenders are selected before each match. These pickup games are formed on IRC (download Quassel) on FreeNode. Join the #armagetron.pickup channel on FreeNode to join in for a game when you think you’re ready!
How to play
First, join #armagetron.pickup on irc.freenode.net or use the webchat in order to do so. Then use the !add command to join the queue for the game you want to play. For instance if you want to play Fortress in an European server say !add fort.eu in the pickup channel. Once enough players have done the same, the channel bot will announce Players and Captains.
All players must then join the appropriate server (see Games played in #armagetron.pickup). First captain calls a vote to make him referee (/callvote referee player) and other players accept. First captain then /op’s the second captain, then they each get on one of the teams and /lock it.
Then, turn by turn, captains pick one player by /invite'ing them to their team. Players must join their team as they are picked. Second captain gets first pick.
The game is then ready to start. Once players are ready, first captain starts the match with /admin start_new_match.
Once the match is over, players must leave or get in spectator mode. The servers are reserved for exclusive use by the pickup channel.

every Sunday at 7 GMT! But still, don't forget games can be played
anytime if people idle/gather on the channel.
