Is there a way to host a server on a Free Online Hosting?

Authentication Help:
Would someone help me make it so I can login to my website by using the"/login" command in tron?

If the website is required for help, it's http://MintRiver.site90.com I'm putting the Authentication here, http://arma.MintRiver.site90.com I spent who knows how long on the Wiki and Forums ( On the armagetronad.net site ) trying to find out how, but I still don't understand it.

Please define free online hosting? Hosting of what? Web? Files? Mp3s? If it's possible to run own code and all the dev tools are there - you should be able to run a server.
Basicly you need to tell the computer (probably you wish this computer to be online 24/7 and connected to the net by some highspeed link) to run your code (armagetron server).
About the aauthd (armagetron authentication deamon), I can see you got your authd working - http://arma.mintriver.site90.com/armaauth/1.0/?query=methods

Server: I just found out that the host I'm using can't do it.

AuthD: I can get to the users page by typing in "arma.mintriver.site90.com/armaauth/1.0/index.php" but I have no users so I can't login. xD Is there a way I can get to arma.mintriver.site90.com/armaauth/1.0/index.php by just typing in arma.mintriver.site90.com ? *is to lazy to type in so much stuff* xD should I just move index.php to the main folder and how do I get users?

you should start with RTFM and STFW first.

Let me expand on that!



I would highlight the word LAZY! I have spent as long as 3-4 hours working on getting a simple thing done with one of the servers that i host gameservers on! If I knew what I was doing, it would have taken prolly 10-15 minutes! I have probably put hundreds of hours of work into getting my limited knowledge up to par with doing what I do! By the way RTFM means Read The Peep-bo Manual! I am a 43 year old father of 2 and a house husband. This is my hobby and how I spend most of my free time. For instance, I spent about 30 of the last 96 hours working on getting a forum setup for my servers! If you are unwilling to put that kind of work into a game server, then why would I give you a free one.

I am so sick of people in the world expecting the world to give them whatever they want on a silver platter, delivered by a butler! If you are not willing to do work for something, then you deserve absolutely nothing! You want a free server? I bet you are one of those people that expect everybody to just give you everything without you working for it! I bet your mommy and daddy spoiled the crap out of you! When I was 14 and wanted to buy a computer so i could do programming at home and not just at school, I got a job and saved my money to spend $200 on a Commodore Vic-20 with a cassette drive (1981) to hook up to a black and white TV my parents bought me. $200 back then was a lot of money! I even bought a modem for it eventually! So, get off your lazy butt and do something that is work to accomplish something. All of us that are moderators, administrators, and server owners, spend lots of free time doing things to improve our favorite video game, ArmagetronAD!

people aren't just going to throw you a free server
although i am not a server owner or admin anywhere i take my hat
off to the people who spend hours working on these just so we can
have interesting new game modes and overall day by day improve
"our favorite video game". Its quite obvious at the work which goes in
to various servers by players such as kyle, compguygene, durka
and various other Tron players when you go to their servers and experience
new game modes/maps/etc. To sum up players don't want to go into a boring
server and so if your not truly dedicated to being a server owner then
no one will ever be in your server so by revealing your lazy side its pretty
clear u will not be receiving a free server or likely to have a very successful
server.. but go ahead prove me wrong

Yes, I know people won't give me a server for free, and I think Ima give up on it, and ask my hosting service to allow me to host the server on my website. xD

i see what u mean ive wanted to set up
a server for a while although gave up after not being
able to find the well "manual" although asking for a free
server is not the option as when u want a second ur right
back to where u started. so i guess the best option is to
try to get someone to teach you how to set one up
which im going to do in a short period of time, heck im sure
if ur eager anyone would lend u a helping hand after all
were all trying to improve the game

Let me explain a couple of options you have and don't have.

Your shared web hosting provider will NOT let you host a gameserver, and even if you did it, it would totally suck.

Most VPS's suck for tron. The exceptions are a XEN based VPS that starts at generally starts at $35/mo or more or an OpenVZ VPS that is truly not being oversold. The problem is that a gameserver can use a lot of processor power. XEN based VPS's guarantee a a certain ammount of processor, memory, etc. OpenVZ VPS's are generally used as a stepping stone to a Dedicated server. But, the processor power available at a given moment may be unbalanced. For example, let's say your OpenVZ VPS is on a Dedicated Server that has a website that is being hit with a DOS Denial of Service attack! Your gameserver will come to a grinding halt. I had that happen with one of the first VPS's that I ever rented.

But, if you don't want to have a sucky server, and you want some hand holding, support, and web controls for your server, you want to go with a provider like WwHosting. We are a partnership between Manta, Destiny, Durka and myself. http://lagtest.net/wwhosting Let me explain. Several of our customers are your age. Several we have taught to administer a server. We provide the service and support you need. We are also very inexpensive, compared to other providers. Most providers of Armagetron game servers charge .50 cents to $1 per slot for a server per month. So, a 24 slot Fortress Server would be $12-$24 per month. We charge $7 per month for one server, or if you want more than one server, we charge $5 per month for the first server, and $4 per month for each additional server. We will do whatever setup necessary to get you started! For example, one of our clients is Arilou of the ID clan. When he wanted a take on the flower power server, we setup the necessary scripting, etc.

Also, you are probably wondering about what kind of servers we host on. The largest dedicated server we host from is in Texas that Destiny and Manta, they are husband and wife, rent. We also host from New York, on dedicated server that I rent that Durka hosts the TX NY servers from. I also have a brand new real private server that is located in France. The difference between a Real Private Server and a true dedicated server is this. Dedicated server has a hard drive of it's own. A Real Private Server has storage that is located on a SAN or Storage Area Network. Because most tron servers are not very i/o dependent on the hard drive as a bottleneck, it is a good interim solution, until we can afford to get a true dedicated server in France. You can choose the location that best suits your players. The New York location is the best to have players that come from all over, and is one of two servers that host the ladle final round.
